WAKEFIELD, Mass., March 15, 2016 -- Xura, Inc. (NASDAQ:MESG), a leading provider of digital communications services, today announced that it is working alongside Globe Telecom, a major provider of telecommunications services in the Philippines, to support the operator in its fight against SMS spam. Globe selected Xura’s Spam & Fraud Control solution back in 2015, and is now blocking 300,000 spam messages a day, to protect its customers from unwanted messages.
Spam can be damaging to any Communication Service Provider’s (CSP’s) brand and reputation, so Globe stepped up its anti-spam campaign in 2015 to protect its customers from receiving unsolicited messages or fraudulent text. It wanted a proactive control mechanism that would detect the scammers, spammers and fraudsters that routinely exploit its network. As one of its trusted partners with long-term experience of its network, Globe selected Xura and its Spam & Fraud Control, which provides a single solution to handle all internal and international traffic and can filter up to one billion SMS daily.
Anton Bonifacio, Globe Chief Information Security Officer, said: “By working with Xura, we have been stepping up our campaign against unwanted and errant text messages, and curb these from our network and to subscriber’s devices. Today Xura handles over 70% of our SMS traffic, and by using their Spam & Fraud solution meant we could extend our existing Xura infrastructure in deployment and ensure complete alignment with our network, with minimum disruption and continued cost savings. Xura’s Spam & Fraud Control solution detects, protects and blocks the transmittal of nuisance messages, which brings us a step closer to having a spam-free network. Globe Telecom’s ultimate mission is to combat the use of its network by individuals who want to take advantage of our customers. Working with Xura, we are getting closer and closer to doing this, and have already gone from blocking 17,000 messages a day to over 300,000, with expectations that we will continue to block more.”
“Xura provides a complete Spam & Fraud solution as a component of our Message Controller (MCO) product, which fits with Globe’s current messaging infrastructure and reporting tools. Our solution is flexible and future-proof meaning it can scale as Globe’s network evolves and traffic grows. By working with Xura, Globe and other operators can take back control of their network to safe guard messaging revenue, protect the network and shield subscribers. Our solution is proven and we are glad to see the positive impact it is having at Globe,” said David Khoo, Managing Director at Xura APAC.
The Xura Spam & Fraud Control solution is the only option available on the market that includes network and content level filtering. Built with Xura’s MCO it is able to address Globe’s requirements for more advanced, comprehensive and proactive spam and fraud control features. Xura’s platform currently covers the majority of Globe’s post-paid and prepaid customers with a combined total of 53 million as of the end of 2015.
