Google has introduced a new feature on its homepage just in time for Halloween in the form of the video game titled Magic Cat Academy. The game has a simple mechanic and a cutesy, if thematic art style, but it does offer enough fun and content to keep players amused for at least a little while.
When thinking of Google, video game creator doesn’t necessarily come to mind, as opposed to search engine company and maker of the ill-fated Google Glass. The company is also known for making Doodle features on its home page during noteworthy holidays or special occasions. This time, instead of the customary Halloween pumpkins, witches, and skeletons, users are treated to a genuinely entertaining mini-game, Search Engine Land reports.
The game is set in a magic academy for cats, as the title might have already hinted at, where one cat in particular named Momo made a huge mistake. After summoning ghosts, Momo now has to get rid of the spirits via magic wand.
The player’s role is to draw simple patterns on the screen to start with in order to get rid of the ghosts. As the game progresses, the patterns become more complicated, made more hectic by the increasing number of combinations of those patterns and the escalating number of ghosts.
By beating all the ghosts in a particular area, players will progress through five sections of the schools, The Verge reports. These would be the library, cafeteria, classroom, gym, and the roof, in that order. Each stage also has a boss, which will test the speed and coordination of players in forming lines and squiggles.
The browser game is available on both the PC and mobile devices. Google also stated that the game was supposed to be a cooking simulation with Momo. In the end, they chose to go with a magic play style and a Halloween theme.
