U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said he had no interest in another administration job after The Washington Sun reported his name had surfaced for three senior posts, amid speculation about post-midterm staffing changes.
The Sun’s Nov. 4 report said Gor had been discussed for the White House chief of staff position and two senior State Department jobs: secretary of state and deputy secretary of state. It said its account drew on 10 people familiar with internal discussions. Gor told the paper, “I have zero interest in any other role.”
The paper connected the names to possible staffing changes after the midterms. It said neither Secretary of State Marco Rubio nor White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles had publicly indicated plans to leave. The Sun said Department of State Assistant Secretary for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson and a White House official whose name it did not provide disputed the speculation.
Separately, the Sun cited an unnamed source who claimed Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau had told colleagues he would leave if Republicans lost control of Congress. Landau later denied telling anyone he planned to leave his State Department job, telling the paper, “I have never told anyone that I have any intention of leaving my job.”
The U.S. Senate’s confirmation list records Gor’s confirmation as ambassador to India on Oct. 7, 2025. The President of India’s office said President Droupadi Murmu accepted his credentials on Jan. 14, 2026. The reported posts remain unconfirmed; the records reviewed contained no official announcement of a new role.
