“Gotham” Season 5 will be the final installment for the comic-book-inspired series and it’s expected to create more chaos given how the previous finale ended. The next season will have a time jump of nearly three months following the chaos created by Jerome (Cameron Monaghan), Carter Matt reported.
The previous finale saw Jerome hand over control of the city to several villains after destroying Gotham’s bridges. Monoghan recently released sneak peeks of what his character will be like in “Gotham” Season 5, with his transformation into the Joker becoming more and more prominent.
But it’s not just his looks that are being given emphasis by the showrunners as his actions are also in line with the iconic character. The showrunners have yet to confirm that Jerome is indeed the Joker but the recent images released by Monoghan all confirm he is indeed the psychopathic maniac fans have come to love. It’s still unclear whether this character development will take place in “Gotham” Season 5 but all signs are pointing to the possibility that this might very well be the case.
This is doubly true since “Gotham” Season 5 is going to be the final installment of the franchise. As mentioned earlier, the premiere episode will have a time jump of three months – 87 days to be precise. However, somewhere during the first episode, another flash forward will take place, accelerating the chaotic descent of the city by 391 days following the previous installment’s finale.
This is a great medium to use in order for the villains who have taken over the city to establish themselves as various powerhouses controlling Gotham. It also sets the stage for Batman (David Mazouz) to come out of the shadows and deal with the antagonists in “Gotham” Season 5.
Of course, given Bruce’s age, it’s likely he isn’t going to singlehandedly save the city but is expected to collaborate with Commissioner Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and other protagonists of the show. As for the air date of “Gotham” Season 5, no official announcement has been made just yet, although it’s expected to return in the early months of 2019.
