The season 12 finale for “Grey’s Anatomy” is supposed to feature the wedding of Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd). However, as long-time fans of the show will know by now, weddings usually cause heartaches more than happiness for the characters; and it seems that this time is not going to be any different.
A video preview of episode 24 reveals Amelia locking herself in the bathroom of her sister-in-law Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and refusing to come out for anyone. The video also contains a bunch of other content, including a scene where a very pregnant April (Sarah Drew) appears to be going into labor.
In another sneak peak video, Meredith is reassuring Maggie (Stephanie McCreary), saying that Amelia was just fine and that a lot of people have locked themselves in bathrooms. Maggie isn’t convinced though and is visibly concerned that Amelia was so silent inside the bathroom.
TVLine recently got in touch with Scorsone where she talked about what her character is going through in the episode.
“Initially, she’s really excited,” said Scorsone. “The fact is, she does love Owen deeply. And she’s never been in a relationship like this before.”
When asked what the catch was, she said that something happens in the morning of the wedding and an “unfortunate series of events takes place that sends Amelia into a tailspin”. It seems that “something” has to do with her family arriving, which can be a stressful development for any bride.
Even worse is that it seems there is no support from her family even during her wedding day. Scorsone reveals that this is a major reason for why Amelia has locked herself away.
Coming to her rescue though is Owen who has some sweet words for Amelia. Could his gesture be enough for Amelia to finally come out and go through with the wedding? Fans will have to tune in on May 19 on ABC to find out.
