“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 will be quite the installment to follow since there are multiple plotlines that need to be resolved following the shocking events that occurred in the latest finale. First up is Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti).
The former has now landed in jail after covering for the latter’s decision to commit insurance fraud. “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 will be exploring this narrative, with the pair’s romance exploding in between now that Mer has confessed her love for DeLuca, THR reported.
Showrunner Krista Vernoff said that the major reason why they wanted to go down this route was to have Mer pay for the consequences of her actions. The character has been developed as someone who has a penchant for breaking the rules. And so far, she has always gotten away with it. “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 will be changing all of that as Vernoff said they wanted to take big swings for the series to keep everything fresh and exciting for audiences.
Meanwhile, the complicated romance between Teddy (Kim Raver), Owen (Kevin McKidd), and Koracick (Greg Germann) is also set to take center stage in the upcoming installment. Teddy has gotten into labor but hasn’t disclosed the news to her current boyfriend, Tom. Instead, Owen was the one who was with her when she delivered her daughter, another decision that will have serious personal consequences in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16.
What’s truly heartbreaking here is the fact that Tom is happily building baby furniture at home for a child that isn’t his all because he’s head over heels for Teddy. The guy has no idea that the love of his life is having a special moment with Owen, with Teddy confessing to Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) that she still harbors strong feeling for the father of her child. And looming above all these is the fate of Jackson (Jesse Williams) who vanished in the fog after a multi-car pileup occurred. Vernoff said that they’re still undecided how they’re going to handle this particular narrative as they’ll be returning to the writer’s room on June 3 to discuss this development. Regarding the release date of “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16, nothing has been announced just yet, but it will likely return on September.
