‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ lead actor Chris Pratt revealed that the sequel will pick up a month after its predecessor, released in 2015. Meanwhile, co-star Kurt Russell also teased that the sequel will have a “complex” story.
According to Just Jared, Pratt expressed his anticipation for the upcoming sequel during an interview on ‘Good Morning America’ with host Michael Strahan on September 20 in New York City. He teased, “It picks up a couple months after the events of the first movie… I can’t say much, but it’s going to be the spectacle movie of all time. I don’t want to oversell it.”
Pratt added, “Kurt Russell’s also going to be in Part 2 and the soundtrack is off the chain.” Russell is set to play Pratt’s on-screen father in the upcoming sequel. Russell will portray Ego the Living Planet, the long-lost father of Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord.
Meanwhile, Russell talked more about director James Gunn’s second installment during an interview with Collider. The 65-year old actor teased, “Well, I’m doing the #2 one, right? So I was really impressed that all of the people on the set were so excited because they felt this was so much stronger than the first one, that they really knew what they were doing and the story itself was strong. That pervaded the set. James and everybody else felt like ‘We got our sea legs on the first one, now we can really go.’”
He continued, “I was impressed with the stuff that I saw at Comic-Con, but they didn’t show you everything [laughs]. It’s a very complex story, and they really get into it. This is going to be one of the more—probably for Marvel, it’s more connected to human issues, family issues, parental issues, and issues that sons and daughters have with their moms and dads and their family tree, where they come from. I just think it’s going to be an interesting— Peter’s character in this one, he’s got dilemmas and he’s got decisions to make that are not just about whether to save that thing or that person. This is about finding out who you are, where you come from, and where you’re going.”
According to Comic Book Resources, Gunn said that his upcoming second installment in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ cinematic series will have nothing to do with the upcoming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ film as previously speculated.
During a Facebook Q&A event, he explained, "There will be infinity nothing. It's a story about the GuarDian's, and isn't meant to lead to anything else." He also admitted that it will not contain the Infinity Stones. He clarified, "I decide everything that happens in 'GotG… Other than that it's in the hands of others."
Gunn added, "I'm dealing with this one story… It's not like I have to change something now for something in the future. It's more like whatever happens in the future will have to be changed by what's created now."
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is an upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film written and directed by James Gunn and produced by Kevin Feige. It is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in the USA.
The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 5, 2017.
