Haikyuu

“Haikyuu” was one of the most popular manga today, and in fact, it has been running for eight years now. While many were surprised when it was suddenly announced that it would conclude in chapter 402, many fans have come to accept that Haruichi Furudate will not be releasing more chapters beyond this.

All in all, Furudate has written 45 volumes of “Haikyuu” manga, and this contains a total of 401 chapters that were published weekly throughout its eight and a half years of existence. One of the things that fans loved about this story is the characters led by Kagayama Tobio and Hinata Shoyo. The accurate gameplay of volleyball was also depicted in this manga, so people who love the sport and Japanese manga have remained loyal followers.

“There is something truly special about a series with such a wholesome cast of characters, absolutely breathtaking action and honest sense of inspiration,” one fan wrote. “Haikyuu is one of the few stories that I come back to over and over again to read and watch.”

Finale recap

“Haikyuu” chapter 402 titled “Challengers” showed flashbacks of a game between Nekoma and Karasuno High then fast forward to July 2021, the Tokyo Olympics was featured, and it showed a game in the women’s division on day 4. The match was Japan against Serbia, and Kanoka Amanai, the ace of the team, displayed her amazing skills.

On the twelfth day of the Olympic game, the men’s volleyball finally took place. The Japanese team is winning although they had difficulties as their opponents, especially Argentina, was a powerful rival.

Elsewhere, all the volleyball alums have gathered while the others are on a trip like Nishinoya and Asahi. As for Ushijima, he is now playing for Japan’s national men’s volleyball team. Tohru Oikawa is playing for the Argentina national team, and he is now a citizen there together with his mentor Blanco.

Back in the current Olympics game, the Japan team has Shoyo Hinata, and his teammates include Ushiwaka, Hoshiumi and Sakusa. On the other hand, Kageyama is with Ali Roma team and they are competing in the 2022 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Championship in Rome. He and his team are facing Asas Sau Paulo a Brazilian team where Hinata is playing thus “Haikyuu” chapter 402 ended with the two players playing for opposite teams again.

Sequel - Is it happening?

Furudate has said goodbye to the fans of “Haikyuu” and he did not mention any plans for a sequel. However, fans are speculating that this is a possibility and if it will return, perhaps, the ending of chapter 402 will also serve as the start of the new beginning for the new chapters.

Finally, it should be noted that there is no announcement about the sequel but this is just a wild guess from those who follow the manga.
