The “Halo” series used to be the defining titles for the Xbox game console, but it has since become a lot less popular once developer “Bungie” let go of the franchise. Still, Microsoft decided to push on with the series with “Halo 5: Guardians,” constantly updating the game and adding features like “Warzone Firefight.” As part of their effort to keep bringing in more interest for the game, Microsoft has released the biggest expansion for the game so far and it is completely free for those with Xbox Live Gold membership accounts.
As Gamespot reports, the free download offer for the expansion will last until July 5, at which time the DLC will return to its paid price. The offer is part of the company’s “Free Play Days” promo where it tries to court as many players as possible to try new games and perhaps to bump the sales of the Xbox One, which has been languishing behind the PS4.
In terms of what the expansion will actually entail, the previously announced “Grunt Goblin” will have a prominent role. Three new maps for the “Warzone Firefight” mode will be added as well; two for “Warzone” and one for “Arena.”
Players can try out new armor sets named “Cinder” and “Cyclops,” along with a new vehicle and several new weapons. For those who are looking for new additions to the campaign, developer “343” is adding what they are calling “Score Attack” mode for single player.
For those who don’t yet have “Halo 5” and have Gold membership accounts, the game now costs 50 percent less to buy, according to Inquisitr. Instead of the usual $60 price tag, players can now get it for only $30. Anyone who hasn’t tried the game yet for whatever reason can now do so for half the price.
