“Hanna” season 2 is expected to draw farther away from the plot fans have known from the same title movie released in 2011. Series creator David Farr previously hinted at the next episodes exploring more of the titular character’s perspective of finding a family and wondering what the future has for her.
The series remake stars Esme Creed-Miles as the titular protagonist who was genetically modified to become a super soldier under a top-secret U.S. government program. Most of the main characters from the movies were also maintained in the series including Hanna’s so-called father Erik (Joel Kinnaman) and CIA Agent Marissa Wiegler (Mireille) tasked to eliminate the likes of Hanna. Unlike in the movie, only Erik died meaning Marissa continues to play a big role in “Hanna” season 2 along with the now-orphaned Hanna.
The show moves on to “Hanna” season 2 with Hanna and Marissa most likely becoming solid allies along with a new player — the rescued Utrax trainee no. 249, Clara (Yasmin Monet Prince). It is interesting how Hanna and Marissa’s dynamic is going to be considering they have been arch rivals for the most part of the series.
It is also interesting how Marissa will play into a seemingly soul-searching-type of plot that awaits the titular character. Without spoiling “Hanna” season 2, Farr told Den of Geek several questions they aim to answer in the next installment.
“For me, a second season of Hanna needs to ask questions, well, if not that family, what family? Where do I belong? And tapping into profound things around nature/nurture and destiny,” the series creator said about “Hanna” season 2. “Can any of us ever escape certain predestinations of where we’ve come from? Can we make ourselves a new? I want to push the character further in answering these questions.”
Amazon Prime Video ordered “Hanna” season 2 in April. The streaming platform has yet to announce a specific release date, but the series is expected to return in 2020.
