Henkel’s Songdo Plant Supplies Adhesives for Chip Packaging

The South Korean facility handles more than 500 adhesive solutions. Henkel has not said whether its AI-targeted CDF900 film is made there.

Henkel’s Songdo site in Incheon makes materials used in semiconductor packaging, giving the German chemicals group a South Korean base for customers building increasingly complex chips.

Henkel described its roughly 35 million euro outlay on the project as its largest single investment in Korea at the time. The two-story facility spans 10,144 square meters and began production in the second half of 2022. Henkel says access to Incheon International Airport helps speed deliveries to Korean customers and preserve its products’ shelf life.

In March 2026, Henkel Korea said the Songdo plant had more than 500 adhesive solutions in its lineup, serving semiconductor packaging, electronic components and device assembly. The facility has Class 10,000 cleanrooms and statistical process-control systems. Herald Economy reported that employees in protective clothing make adhesives in cleanrooms where dust, temperature and humidity are controlled. Some lights filter out ultraviolet rays to prevent reactions during production, the outlet reported.

Henkel’s portfolio includes materials used to bond chips to substrates, protect package joints and manage heat, Herald Economy and e4ds News reported. The company says higher chip frequencies, greater thermal design power and more complex package architectures increase the challenge of controlling heat and stress.

Henkel announced its Loctite Ablestik CDF900 conductive die-attach film series Aug. 19, 2026. The company said the film’s thermal conductivity exceeds 8 W/m-K and listed artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, 5G and emerging 6G among its intended applications. The announcement did not identify where the film is made.

On June 16, 2026, e4ds News reported that Henkel did not confirm whether it supplied particular customers or product generations for high-bandwidth memory and next-generation packages.

The Korea Herald reported Oct. 26 that Henkel plans a technical center in Seoul’s Gasan Digital Complex, with a tentative opening in March 2027 and a working relationship with Songdo. Henkel’s locations page lists an existing Innovation Center in Gasan.
