Starbucks Refreshers offer a fruity alternative to coffee, with caffeine levels varying by size and flavor. A Tall Refresher has 35-45 milligrams of caffeine, while a Trenta contains 90-110 milligrams. For a bigger boost, Starbucks' Iced Energy Drinks offer up to 205 milligrams of caffeine.

Starbucks Refreshers Offer a Fruity, Caffeine-Boosting Alternative with Varying Levels by Size

There are numerous ways to get your caffeine fix at Starbucks, with the classic route being a hot, iced, or blended coffee—like the ever-popular Pumpkin Spice Latte. However, Starbucks Refreshers offer a fruity alternative for those seeking a lighter energy boost. While not coffee-based, these beverages contain caffeine, though the levels vary depending on the size. A 12-ounce Tall Refresher contains between 35 and 45 milligrams of caffeine, while the 16-ounce Grande holds 45 to 55 milligrams. At 24 ounces, Ventis contain between 70 and 85 milligrams, and the largest size, the 30-ounce Trenta, offers 90 to 110 milligrams of caffeine.

The caffeine content fluctuates slightly by flavor, but the differences are minimal. To provide context, a single shot of Starbucks espresso contains about 75 milligrams of caffeine, and a Grande Cappuccino clocks in at roughly 150 milligrams. The caffeine in Refreshers comes from green coffee extract, a natural, primarily flavorless source derived from unroasted coffee beans. This ingredient combines water, sugar, white grape juice concentrate, freeze-dried fruit, and other natural flavors to create a fruity, refreshing drink.

Starbucks Iced Energy Drinks Deliver a Strong Caffeine Boost with Low-Calorie, Sugar-Free Options

For those seeking a more considerable caffeine boost without coffee, Starbucks also introduced Iced Energy Drinks in June 2024. These drinks are available in two fixed flavors: Tropical Citrus and Melon Burst, served only in Venti size and packed with 205 milligrams and 180 milligrams of caffeine, respectively. These energy drinks contain more than double the caffeine of the Refreshers. They are also available in a seasonal Frozen Tropical Citrus flavor with Strawberry Purée, which provides 140 milligrams of caffeine.

Starbucks' Iced Energy Drinks have less than ten calories and contain no sugar, starkly contrasting the sugar-heavy Refreshers, which pack at least 24 grams of sugar in their smallest size. With caffeine levels similar to popular energy drinks like Celsius, Starbucks’ energy offerings boost customers while maintaining a low-calorie, sugar-free profile, appealing to those looking for a healthier alternative.
