There’s still no news whether Disney is interested in creating “High School Musical 4.” But, given the hype of its hardcore following, they absolutely should, especially when the marketing itself is being pushed by its fan base.
Indeed, a “High School Musical 4” movie concept has been created again by Smasher. Upon uploading the video on Dec. 19, 2018, the clip has garnered over four million views on Youtube.
This just proves that there’s still a lot of people willing to hit the theaters for “High School Musical 4.” It seems that the main factor contributing to the hype of a possible sequel is the nostalgia that it brings. Those who grew on the early parts of the 2000s know exactly the magic that this franchise has brought.
But, even though the fans themselves are generating a lot of noise on the web for “High School Musical 4,” Disney remains mum about the entire thing. The last time that Disney said something about a fourth installment was in 2009.
During the announcement, President and Chief Creative Officer Gary Marsh said that the official title for “High School Musical 4” will be “High School Musical East Meets West,” BroadwayWorld reported. Ten years later, the movie still hasn’t moved into its production phase despite Disney already laying the groundwork for the film.
“The creative challenge for 'High School Musical East Meets West' is to deliver every element that the audience expects, and then re-invent those elements in a bold new way. Clearly, we're thrilled to have our screenwriter from all three 'HSM' movies back, along with our producing and songwriting teams. Adding a dynamic, imaginative, visual stylist like Jeffrey Hornaday as our director/choreographer introduces the perfect catalyst to take this team to the next level,” Marsh previously said. With the company reimagining a lot of its hit films in recent years, it’s surprising that “High School Musical 4” still hasn’t been made.
However, Kenny Ortega suggested that a fourth installment can happen if fans shout loud enough, Smasher said. This sort of tactic has precedence with “Lucifer” and “Last Man Standing” among the few examples that can be cited. Sure, these are TV series, not films, but the core of their revival is still parallel to Ortega’s statements. If fans can prove to Disney that they’re willing to support “High School Musical 4,” then the company will have no choice but to listen to its fan base.
