Disney fans have known for a while now that a project dubbed as “High School Musical 4” is in the pipeline. But many might be wondering if, almost a decade later, some of the original cast members will reprise their roles.
The details known to the public about the making of “High School Musical 4” indicate that it is not happening, unfortunately. The movie project has been confirmed for a couple of years now and there has been no report that Troy (Zac Efron), Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), or Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) are revisiting the East High School.
However, actor Bart Johnson who played Coach Bolton might possibly agree to join “High School Musical 4” if he gets the call. Earlier this year, he joked in a lengthy Instagram post about the need for a spin-off installment focused on his character and Ms. Darbus (Alyson Reed).
While no one from the original cast is signed to appear in “High School Musical 4,” some of the actors have previously shared their thoughts about the upcoming movie. Hudgens told E! News in 2017 that she could pass as a teacher in the movie but she might refuse such a role because she is “still a teenager at heart.”
On the other hand, Tisdale sounded more certain that her returning as Sharpay for “High School Musical 4” is impossible. "I honestly don't think I would, just based off of, I don't know if I could fill her shoes again," Tisdale said in a separate interview with E! News. "I've matured so much, I just don't know if I could give her justice — Sharpay — and be that character again. And I would hate to not have it be great."
While Tisdale already shut down a Sharpay comeback in “High School Musical 4,” the new main character named Campbell is literally related to the character. Campbell is practically described as Troy 2.0 and is the cousin of original characters Sharpay and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel).
Unfortunately, Disney is yet to announce a release date for “High School Musical 4.” Fans must also note that the upcoming TV movie is an entirely different project from the 10-episode docuseries “High School Musical: The Musical.”
