Hindustan Zinc Limited’s quarterly net profit more than doubled as higher metal prices and output lifted revenue, while lower zinc production costs helped the Vedanta Group company widen its earnings margin.

The Indian producer of zinc, lead and silver reported consolidated net profit of Rs 6,412 crore for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026. That was about 142% above Rs 2,649 crore a year earlier and 17.2% above the preceding quarter’s Rs 5,469 crore.

Revenue from operations reached Rs 15,093 crore, compared with Rs 8,549 crore a year earlier and Rs 13,747 crore in the April-June quarter. Hindustan Zinc said higher prices, greater production, improved returns from by-products and a stronger U.S. dollar supported revenue.

The company reported earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, of Rs 9,285 crore, against Rs 4,467 crore a year earlier. Its reported EBITDA margin widened to 62% from 52% over the same period.

Silver production totaled 173 tonnes, 20% higher than a year earlier. Refined metal output reached 264,000 tonnes, up 7%, while mined metal production rose 5% to 271,000 tonnes. The company had attributed part of the increase in refined output to capacity added through work at Chanderiya and Dariba and a roaster at Debari.

Hindustan Zinc put its zinc production cost excluding royalties at $703 per tonne, 29% below the year-earlier level. It cited better ore grades, greater use of renewable power and improved returns from by-products among the reasons for the decline.

Vedanta has set a zinc production target across India and South Africa of 3 million tonnes a year, including 2 million tonnes from Hindustan Zinc. Those targets are company goals, rather than output reported for the quarter.

On its Oct. 19 earnings call, Hindustan Zinc lowered its fiscal 2027 guidance for zinc production cost excluding royalties to $825 to $850 per tonne from $975 to $1,000 per tonne. The revised range is a full-year forecast.
