‘Holmes & Watson’ is set to feature actor-comedians Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in the upcoming full-feature film adaptation of the famous detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The two will reunite after working together on comedy films ‘Step Brothers’ and ‘Talladega Nights’. Etan Coen of ‘Get Hard’ has boarded the film as director.
According to Collider, Reilly and Ferrell will reunite in a comedic adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic characters. The new film ‘Holmes & Watson’ will be a fresh version of the story of iconic fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.
The two actors achieved perfect comedic chemistry together in films such as Adam McKay’s 2006 sports comedy film ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’ as well as McKay’s 2008 R-rated comedy film ‘Step Brothers’.
Etan Coen, who directed Ferrell in the 2015 buddy comedy film ‘Get Hard’, is set to direct the upcoming film. Coen also worked as writer in various television series including MTV’s ‘Beavis and Butthead’, Walt Disney Television’s ‘Recess’, Fox’s ‘King of the Hill’, and Fox’s ‘American Dad!’.
According to the Independent, Ferrell is set to play Sherlock Holmes while Reilly will play his loyal friend and associate Dr. James Watson.
Sherlock Holmes is celebrated as one of the most prolific characters in the history of cinema. According to Deadline, the upcoming adaptation joins the list of numerous Sherlock Holmes stories adapted in recent years including the Guy Ritchie-directed films ‘Sherlock Holmes’ starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law and Bill Condon’s ‘Mr. Holmes’ starring Ian McKellen.
There have also been many television adaptations including BBC One’s crime-drama series ‘Sherlock’ starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman and CBS’ procedural drama series ‘Elementary’ starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu.
‘Holmes and Watson’ is an upcoming comedy film written and directed by Etan Coen. It will be produced by Jimmy Miller, Mosaic, and Gary Sanchez and stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reily in the lead roles. It is produced under Columbia Pictures, Gary Sanchez Productions, and Mosaic and is distributed by Columbia Pictures in the United States and Sony worldwide.
