Home Depot reportedly recruited Walmart for the delivery of goods that its customers purchased online. It was mentioned that most of the items would be paint and tools, but there will be other things as well.
Home Depot and Walmart made the announcement about their partnership on Wednesday, Oct. 6. However, both sides did not disclose the terms they signed for the deal. How long the contract will take effect was not shared either.
As per CNBC, the company that sells home improvement needs in the U.S. is the first retail firm to sign up for GoLocal services, which are Walmart’s delivery business that was launched in August. It was said that it is providing delivery services that are similar to Instacart and planning to accommodate delivery requests from local to national levels.
It was added that deliveries via Walmart’s GoLocal are carried out by drivers who registered on Spark Driver, Walmart’s delivery platform. To kickstart the delivery agreement with Home Depot, Walmart will begin the deliveries in the next few weeks, and it will pick up items at select stores in New Mexico then, it will gradually expand the service across the country before 2021 ends.
“We are honored to work with The Home Depot in our shared goal of making fast and reliable local delivery available in every community we serve, including rural and suburban areas, where we both have a strong retail presence,” Walmart U.S. chief executive officer, John Furner, said in a press release. “We are excited to welcome The Home Depot as Walmart GoLocal’s first retail client and look forward to helping power their local delivery efforts.”
Stephanie Smith, The Home Depot’s senior vice president of the supply chain, added that the company is continuously working to provide the best and most convenient shopping experience to its customers, including fast and reliable delivery options. She said that its team up with Walmart also brings them closer to achieving their goal of offering same-day or next-day delivery to most of their clients in the country.
Finally, at this time, Walmart will only provide the same-day and next-day delivery service to online purchases that can fit into a car like small boxes containing paint brushes or nails. It will be confirmed upon checkout if the deliveries qualify for the GoLocal delivery option.
