When he’s not leading development teams through the strategic initiatives at Talaera, a critical e-learning platform that offers business English training for professional teams around the world, Anton Novikau spends his spare time giving back to the development community. He is an active judge for the startup accelerator MassChallenge, which brings together innovators to solve massive challenges around the world.
Working in this capacity in the startup realm isn’t something that Anton always saw himself doing, but ultimately, his career opportunities molded him into a big-picture thinker who knows how to shape teams and deliver projects, making him the perfect resource for startups at MassChallenge. He knows what it looks like to tackle big challenges and how to get creative with technology and solutions, and he imparts that wisdom on developers and entrepreneurs from all over the world.
The concept of forging your own path and making your dreams a reality isn’t new to Anton. When he was just a boy, he discovered programming. He would spend hours upon hours after school and on the weekends teaching himself to code, building applications, and learning new programming languages. Though coding was just starting to become popular, and the technology space was in its early stages throughout his childhood, Anton knew it was the future, and he devoted himself to his craft.
He went on to study Informatics and Radioelectronics at the Belarussian State University. It was there that he began developing Android applications, mastering the technology and platform enough to build a career around it. He started working at a major IT service company in Belarus before he had even graduated. There, he worked with many different clients and cutting-edge technologies, but one client, Talaera stood out.
When Talaera was his client, he had no idea that he would end up working for the company in the future. After his tenure at the IT company, he went to work as a senior software developer at ISsoft Solutions, parting ways with Talaera and his other clients. During this time, he mastered his management skills; Anton had transitioned from being a brilliant developer to a brilliant leader in the development space. It’s a move that not everyone makes seamlessly, but Anton was a natural.
Having honed in on his leadership skills, Anton was ready for a bigger challenge. It was then that leaders at Talaera reached out, appreciative of the work he had done for them and aware of his talent in the technology space, they brought Anton in as Head of Development. Taking this position was a big move in his career, as it not only involved professional growth in such a key position, but it also involved a full relocation to the U.S. Anton did not think twice: He moved to the United States to help support the growth Talaera, where he’s been managing a remote team of developers, learning the ins and outs of reaching goals, building software, and, most importantly, forming a cohesive team with the added challenge of physical distance between everyone. No matter the challenges, Anton proved to be a successful leader that garnered respect from his colleagues and company leadership.
Anton was a lifelong student; he spent his days learning, teaching himself new concepts, and mastering his craft. Because of his dedication to learning, he became a natural teacher. Now, Anton leads teams, teaches young programmers how to navigate their careers, and sparks inspiration in the startup space. It’s people like Anton that propel the next generation of tech leaders and coders to their success. Now, his goals are much more broad and people-focused, but it’s clear that Anton is mastering yet another set of skills through dedication, commitment, and innovation.
