Hyundai Motor has announced a significant vehicle recall in the United States, affecting 51,587 vehicles, after identifying a potential fire hazard linked to faulty trailer wiring installations. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall was issued after it was found that an incorrectly installed trailer wiring harness could cause a short circuit, even when the trailer lights are not in use. This defect increases the risk of an electrical fire, prompting immediate safety concerns for vehicle owners.
The issue stems from the trailer wiring harness, which may have been installed improperly during manufacturing or previous service procedures. As a result, electrical current could flow where it should not, leading to overheating or sparks. While no widespread incidents have been publicly reported, regulators and the automaker are taking preventive action to minimize any potential danger to drivers, passengers, and surrounding property.
As part of the recall remedy, Hyundai and the NHTSA are advising owners of the affected vehicles to park their cars outdoors and away from buildings or structures until the repair has been completed. This precautionary measure is intended to reduce the risk of property damage or injury in the unlikely event of a fire occurring before the fix is applied.
Hyundai dealers will replace the faulty trailer wiring harness at no cost to customers. The repair is designed to eliminate the short-circuit risk and restore the vehicle to safe operating condition. Owners will be notified directly and instructed on how to schedule a service appointment with an authorized Hyundai dealership.
Vehicle recalls related to electrical systems are taken seriously due to their potential safety implications. This Hyundai recall highlights the importance of proper installation of vehicle components and ongoing regulatory oversight. Owners who believe their vehicle may be affected are encouraged to check their VIN through Hyundai or the NHTSA website and take prompt action to ensure their vehicle’s safety.
