IBM announced the launch of IBM Hyper Protect Offline Signing Orchestrator (OSO), a groundbreaking technology to implement cold storage solutions for digital assets. OSO represents the latest addition to IBM's extensive lineup of confidential computing offerings.
It further solidifies the company's commitment to enhanced security and data protection.
Addressing Limitations of Current Cold Storage Solutions
According to a press release by IBM, OSO has been specifically designed to overcome the limitations of existing cold storage options for digital assets. One key challenge is the need for manual procedures to execute cold storage transactions.
OSO effectively mitigates these challenges by providing additional security layers, including disconnected network operations, time-based security measures, and electronic transaction approval by multiple stakeholders, as per Cointelegraph.
Hyper Protect OSO offers a robust policy engine that facilitates communication between two distinct applications. The unique feature of this engine is its ability to ensure secure communication between applications that are intentionally designed not to communicate directly with each other for security reasons.
In doing so, Hyper Protect OSO provides a highly efficient and secure solution to facilitate digital asset transactions.
Collaboration with Metaco and Tier 1 Banks
IBM has collaborated closely with Metaco, a trusted IBM Business Partner and leading digital asset custody provider, as well as tier 1 banks to ensure that OSO meets the diverse requirements of clients.
Metaco Harmonize, a secure orchestration system for digital asset applications, will leverage OSO to enhance its existing catalog of institutional cold storage solutions. OSO acts as an intermediary between the two separate components of Metaco running in isolated Hyper Protect Virtual Server instances.
Adrien Treccani, Founder and CEO of Metaco, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, "IBM's confidential computing division has been a reliable partner throughout the years. We are pleased to complement Metaco's institutional cold storage solutions with the unique air-gapped cold storage capabilities enabled by OSO, especially as regulators in markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan increasingly mandate cold storage requirements."
By leveraging OSO, Metaco Harmonize can offer an even more seamless transaction environment with zero exposure to digital assets stored in cold storage. This innovative approach presents an attractive alternative to commercially available physically air-gapped cold storage technologies, ensuring enhanced security and peace of mind.
The Tokenization of Global Illiquid Assets
As the financial ecosystem continues to evolve, the tokenization of global illiquid assets is expected to gain significant traction as a lucrative business opportunity in the years to come. It becomes increasingly crucial to have a mature solution for cold storage that can fully support this market growth and enable secure management of tokenized assets.
