IKEA has teamed up with SunPower Corp. to make solar energy products easily accessible to customers. Also, the aim of the collaboration is to offer solar solutions in homes in the United States.
IKEA made the announcement earlier this month, and the availability of the solar products has created the Home Solar with IKEA line in the Swedish furniture retailer’s stores. With this, customers can now buy solar panels and other solar solutions for their homes at select IKEA outlets starting this fall.
According to KRON4 News, at this time, only the members of the IKEA Family loyalty program are allowed to buy the new home solar products. These items are perfect, especially these days when electricity rates have been continuously going up.
With the solar items from SunPower Corp., homeowners can now set up their own renewable energy and generate the electricity and power that they need. This will also allow people to live more sustainably and help with the environmental efforts as well.
In the meantime, IKEA will only be selling solar products in some select store outlets in California. It was not mentioned if this also includes the Bay Area locations, which are Emeryville and Palo Alto.
“At IKEA, we’re passionate about helping our customers live a more sustainable life at home. We’re proud to collaborate with SunPower to bring this service to the U.S. and enable our customers to make individual choices aimed at reducing their overall climate footprint,” IKEA US chief executive officer and chief sustainability officer, Javier Quiñones, said in a press release.
The chief further said that “The launch of Home Solar with IKEA will allow more people to take greater control of their energy needs, and our goal is to offer the clean energy service at additional IKEA locations in the future.”
Peter Faricy, the CEO of SunPower, said that he and the entire team are thrilled to bring exceptional, cutting-edge solar products to customers of IKEA through a simplified buying experience. “Together with IKEA, we can help introduce the incredible benefits of solar to more people and deliver on our shared value of making a positive impact on the planet,” he added.
