“Into the Dark” Season 1 is set to make hearts race this year as the production company that brought audiences “The Purge” and “Get Out” is behind these chilling stories. Episode 1, which is titled “The Body,” kicked off the season with an intriguing character, TV Insider reported.
In it, an assassin played by Tom Bateman hauls around his dead prey wrapped in cellophane. And as the episode is set for Oct. 31, everyone just assumes that the guy is going all out with his Halloween costume. Of course, it is anything but and the assassin is actually dragging a corpse around. Most of the episodes of “Into the Dark” Season 1 will be set like this, focusing on each holiday of the month and putting a chilling twist on it.
Indeed, Blumhouse Television co-president Jeremy Gold explained that it is exactly what they were going for, citing “Black Mirror” as the series to inspire “Into the Dark” Season 1. "This dashing James Bond–type is dragging a body wrapped in plastic," Gold said. "Everyone is like, 'Great costume, dude!' Of course, he’s actually a hit man, and that’s a nearly dead person he was hired to kill."
What’s brilliant about the premiere episode is how writers weaved the plotline so that the audience has a choice whether to root for the murderer or his counterpart. Writer Paul Fischer said that they intended to write the premiere of “Into the Dark” Season 1 with the idea of creating ambiguity for the audiences.
"I've always felt that people take away from movies what they bring to it. So I think whoever you root for is kind of based on your own individual responsibilities as a person," episode director Paul Davis said. And as Fischer previously said, this sort of choosing allegiances will be seen throughout “Into the Dark” Season 1. Each episode will provide viewers the chance to enjoy a chilling tale while also giving them a sort of introspection on what their personality truly is. The next episode of the horror-oriented drama will air on Nov. 2, which is titled “Flesh & Blood.”
