In recent weeks, there have been clear indications that the announcement of an upcoming “Fallout” game will be one of the highlights during Bethesda Softworks' press event at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this month.
However, a sequel to the spinoff “Fallout: New Vegas” does not seem to be part of the program. But some are still hoping that the future of the franchise will include a sequel to its 2010 spinoff title.
A report from Screen Rant cited several factors indicating why there is still hope for a supposed “Fallout: New Vegas 2.” For one, the market success of “Fallout: New Vegas” is something that is hard to overlook, this despite some opinions saying that the development of the spinoff was done in a hurry as publisher Bethesda scrambled to take advantage of the widely positive reception to “Fallout 3.”
Although some gameplay elements of the spinoff can be improved, “Fallout: New Vegas” still showed remarkable success in terms of sales. The game was released in October 2010, and just a little over a month later, Bethesda confirmed that they had already shipped over 5 million copies, translating to $300 million in revenue.
The massive success of “Fallout: New Vegas” came from the combined efforts of Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment. However, the latter already hinted that Bethesda has not called them to work on another “Fallout” project. Shortly after Bethesda teased the currently dubbed “Fallout 76” game, Obsidian took to Twitter with a cryptic message seemingly confirming it. This just means that they are not involved in the making of “Fallout 76” or a “New Vegas” sequel.
Meanwhile, Screen Rant also presented the possibility of seeing a remastered release of “New Vegas,” given the availability of more advanced gaming consoles today. The same report added that a “New Vegas” sequel could be Bethesda’s perfect response to the release of Rockstar Games’ “Red Dead Redemption 2.”
In related news, fans of the spinoff have another thing to look forward to. It has been recently announced that a “New California” mod for the “New Vegas” is slated to launch on Oct. 23.
