Eight days before Israel’s Oct. 27 election, military chief of staff Eyal Zamir was not summoned to talks between U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, KAN reported.

KAN said the Oct. 19 meeting took place at Ovda Airbase in southern Israel. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and other officials attended. The broadcaster did not explain why Zamir was not called to the previously unannounced meeting.

Channel 12 separately reported that Hegseth’s visit occurred while the United States and Israel were discussing a possible return to large-scale military operations against Iran.

Zamir said Oct. 20 that the Israeli military was prepared and on high alert ahead of the election. Netanyahu, who has led Israel’s government since December 2022, faces opposition parties in the Oct. 27 vote.
