Fans have been expecting “Jane the Virgin” season 5 to premiere in early 2019. But since no official teasers have been released yet, it is possible that the final installment will air at a later schedule.
Most series slated to premiere in January already have its official teasers revealed this month. But it is evidently not the case for “Jane the Virgin” season 5.
However, back in October, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman said on Twitter that “Jane the Virgin” season 5 will not premiere “until January.” It was enough information for the fanbase to hope that the show will come back next month.
I want people to see our season premiere, but it's not until January! Ahhhhhhhhh. That is all. #JanetheVirgin

As mentioned, The CW and the “Jane the Virgin” season 5 cast and crew have yet to make follow up announcements regarding the show’s premiere. Now, some reports are speculating that the new release date is likely to set sometime in February. Interestingly, IMDb lists the fifth season premiere with a March 2019 air date.
It is also important to note that “Jane the Virgin” season 5 is the first installment of the series that skipped a fall premiere. Even though the fourth season concluded in spring like previous seasons did, The CW still opted to release the final episodes at a much later time.
Yes I will be!! And PS. For those curious. I saw the first 3 episodes of season 5 of @CWJaneTheVirgin and they are unbelievable... literally was blown away. https://t.co/wjK3trvnbq

Aside from Urman’s tweet, actor Brett Dier, playing the role of the resurrected Michael, confirmed that he already saw the first three episodes of “Jane the Virgin” season 5. “They are unbelievable... literally was blown away,” Dier told his fans.
Dier’s Michael is undoubtedly at the center of “Jane the Virgin” season 5 following his shocking return in season 4. In earlier episodes, Michael suddenly died which was followed by a multiple year time jump where Jane (Gina Rodriguez), Rafael (Justin Baldoni), and the rest of the characters have moved on with their lives.
There are numerous theories surrounding Michael’s return. Some fans think he did not really die while others consider the possibility that whoever showed up in the season 4 finale could be an imposter. Meanwhile, Urman previously told TVLine they will tackle this mystery “in the beginning” of “Jane the Virgin” season 5.
