Rumors surrounding the estranged couple Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have been getting more far-fetched recently. A tabloid claimed that the actress performed an exorcism on her ex-husband before he agreed to go on rehab. But as expected, the said report was called out to be false.
A recent article from National Enquirer (via Hollywood News Daily) went beyond the previously reported stories about Affleck and Garner. Earlier articles indicated that the "Alias" actress staged an intervention for Affleck's relapse but National Enquirer further claimed that there was exorcism involved.
To those not familiar, exorcism is a religious practice done for individuals who are believed to be possessed by demons or spiritual beings. In the case of the Catholic church, only priests who went through a Vatican-approved training course are authorized to carry out an exorcism.
Meanwhile, National Enquirer’s report quoted a “secret source” who said Jennifer Garner “dragged” Ben Affleck before proceeding to “recite passages and scripture from the Bible” to address his “demons.” Garner purportedly prayed over Affleck and then the latter started crying.
Gossip Cop debunked National Enquirer’s report. The media outlet, known for fact-checking celebrity rumors, reached out to Garner’s spokesperson about the exorcism claims. As expected, her rep denied that such ritual ever happened between Garner and Affleck and then called National Enquirer’s article “untrue.”
When Garner was seen arriving at Affleck's Pacific Palisades home on Aug. 22 with a Bible in hand, reports confirmed that she staged an intervention but not an exorcism. Garner went to Affleck just days before he was spotted receiving boxes of what were believed to be alcoholic drinks. Moments after the reported intervention, the actress went outside Affleck's house to personally ask the horde of paparazzi to give them space before they left for the rehab facility.
In other news, Jennifer Garner was seen going to church on Sunday along with her three children and the mother of her ex-husband. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck was also spotted outside the rehab facility over the weekend after getting a haircut and shortly visiting his home in Pacific Palisades.
