‘Justice League’ actor Henry Cavill teased a major storyline for the upcoming film by posting an image of a black Superman suit on social media. The rumored storyline may be taken from DC’s popular multi-issue comic book “The Death and Return of Superman”.
According to Comingsoon.net, Cavill took to Instagram to share a photograph of what looks to be a black version of a Superman suit fueling speculation that his character Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman will be rising from dead to return as a dark version of the caped crusader.
Cavill’s tease suggested that Zack Snyder’s upcoming ‘Justice League’ film will borrow the storyline from the iconic DC comic book multi-issue comic book “The Death and Return of Superman”, according to Yahoo! Movies. In the 1992 comic ‘The Death of Superman’, Superman fights the supervillain Doomsday in the streets of Metropolis. He finally succumbs to battle wounds in the issue published in 1993.
Four individuals believed to be the “new” Superman emerge before the eventual return of the “real” Superman in the multi-issue’s conclusion. The superhero returned wearing a black uniform with a metallic “S” symbol emblazoned on his chest. The original comic books met massive success in domestic markets as well as internationally and reached the top position in comic book sales charts.
Superman’s death was played out on the big screen in Snyder’s previous film ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. He sacrificed himself for the sake of humanity. This heroic act inspired Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman to seek out other individuals endowed with superhuman abilities to form a group of superhero crime fighters.
Joining Cavill, Affleck and Gadot in Snyder’s upcoming film are Ezra Miller as Barry Allen a.k.a. the Flash, Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman, and Ray Fisher as Victor Stone a.k.a. Cyborg.
According to IMDB, other members of the ensemble cast include Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Amber Heard as Mera, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.
‘Justice League’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017. It is directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio. It is intended as the fifth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) following the release of Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman’.
The film is produced by DC Comics, DC Entertainment, RatPac-Dune Entertainment LLC, Lensberg Productions, and Warner Bros.
