Although there have been plenty of running jokes within the video game industry revolving around titles that have been in development hell (Duke Nukem Forever, anyone?) one of the most hotly anticipated is Kingdom Hearts 3. Well, if rumors are to be believed, the game might finally be released in 2018. What’s more, a trailer will reportedly be shown during E3 2017.
For those who haven’t been following developments in this story, the third, main installment in the Square Enix franchise has been breaking the hearts of fans for over a decade. It’s been delayed multiple times and has been languishing in development since 2005. If the rumors from a source with a proven track record are to be believed, this might all end soon, The International Business Times reports.
The news comes from Jose Álamo, a well-known source of video game information that he gets from contacts within the industry, particularly inside Square Enix. Álamo has been right on numerous occasions when he made predictions that turned out to be true but the stakes this time are much higher. He is basically giving a desperate fan base some glimmer of hope that could be dashed away.
Álamo spilled the beans on his Twitter account recently and while the post is in Spanish, it basically says that a “reliable internal source” has informed him of several interesting tidbits about KH3. Supposedly, barring any potential issues that come up along the way, a trailer for the game will make an appearance during this year’s Square Enix E3 presentation and the title will be released in 2018.
La semana que viene Ubi enseñará el primer tráiler de AC Origins a sus inversores y puede que empiecen con la promoción.

Without a doubt, this is great news for fans of the collaborative series, but there are a few worrying details as well. For starters, Álamo’s source said that the game will be released even when it isn’t finished, which could spell disaster. There’s also the matter of the game possibly changing directors since Tetsuya Nomura has reportedly been too much of a perfectionist.
