Konami has been getting a lot of hate from practically everyone since its spat with video game legend Hideo Kojima, which ended in both parties going on separate ways. Since then, the video game company has been the target of mockery, name-calling, and rude hashtag campaigns. With its most recent attempt at reviving the “Metal Gear” franchise, it seems Konami believes that making the game a four-player co-op title and throwing zombies into the mix is the way to go.
As Forbes points out, Kojima is not the only reason that the original “Metal Gear” video games exist. He also had help from a capable team of developers. However, it also can’t be denied that Kojima had a monumental role in the franchise. Without him, fans rightly wondered what Konami would do to their beloved series, and now they have the answer.
Called “Metal Gear Survive,” the game is marketed as a co-op title, where four players will attempt to survive in a world full of crystal-faced zombies. These characters, none of whom is a major character in the franchise, have been sucked into an alternate reality via wormholes, along with a sizable chunk of the base in “Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes.”
For anyone who paid attention to any of those details, it quickly becomes apparent that this is now a “Metal Gear” game in name only, Ars Technica reports. Then again, Kojima himself experimented with some weird ideas and plastering the franchise’ title over it.
The series is built on top of some of the most innovative content in history, to be sure, but it is also full of some of the weirdest plot lines, characters, and conclusions. Some are arguing that interdimensional hordes of zombies are not that farfetched compared to bipedal tanks, people who have photosynthetic qualities, and psychics.
