LG Uplus Corp. is set to roll out a metaverse platform made especially for young children. It has been aptly called "Kidstopia" and will feature quizzes, provide knowledge about animals, teach English, and more.
LG Uplus is using its own mascot characters - "Yuppi and Friends" and "Holeman" - which will act as the AI friends in the metaverse space. AI Holeman will present the English words and sentences to the kids once they enter the virtual world, while AI Pinky will handle the quizzes.
As per Aju Business Daily, LG Uplus' new Kidstopia metaverse platform will allow children to interact with each other as well. They can learn about dinosaurs and other animals using avatars while they navigate the virtual world.
The mobile network operator company will also integrate functions that will filter profanity to make the metaverse platform purely child-friendly. The system will report children who are not behaving properly while chatting and interacting with others.
LG Uplus will be releasing the open beta of Kidstopia, and kids aged 12 and up can sign up. The platform is set to drop at the end of this month, with no exact date given.
Kids can customize their avatars by choosing their preferred skin tone, hairstyles, eyes, and nose. They can also dress up their characters using the available apparel on Kidstopia. Once their accounts are activated, they can participate in and enjoy various activities, including dance events, camping, and even snowball fight.
The Korea Economic Daily reported that Kidstopia metaverse has two main areas, and these are the Central Plaza and the experiential learning space. The former is the starting point once the user logs in and a place where kids can interact and play with other children using their avatars. The other area is the educational side, where they can learn many things.
In any case, LG Uplus said it created Kidstopia based on advice from 150 individuals which include game developers and education professionals. For extra safety and added guidance, parents can freely monitor their children's activities while in the metaverse.
