LS Cable & Systems has begun mass manufacturing a hack-proof optical cable that is made of special fiber optics and equipped with enhanced coatings.
These hack-proof optical cables are expected to be widely used in data centers and the finance and defense sectors.
When optical cables are bent, some light traveling along it escapes, allowing hackers to steal information by intercepting optical signals.
According to one company official, regular optical fiber cables are often installed with infrared coatings and metal tubes to prevent hacking. But these are expensive and difficult to install, prompting many companies to skip the process.
Consequently, it results in leaks of data such as emails, financial transactions, or CCTV footage.
The hack-proof cable is the latest in the South Korean cable maker's series of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.
Earlier this year, LS Cable & System unveiled a new premium carbon fiber telecommunication cable that is more than 20 percent lighter.
