Latest Commitment of Traders positions (Commodities) as of April 4th 2017

CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (7th April) and cover positions up to Tuesday (4th April). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions; however, it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.

Kindly note, in some cases, numbers are rounded to nearest decimal.

  • Gold – Net position long and increasing

Long positions rose for third consecutive week.  The net long position increased by 17,616 contracts to +155.4K contracts.               

  • Copper – – Net position long and decreasing

Long positions declined for a ninth time in ten weeks. The net longs decreased by 2,997 contracts to +26.9K contracts.

  • Silver – Net position long and increasing

Long positions increased for a second consecutive week and by 10,694 contracts to +101.4K contracts.

  • WTI Crude – Net position long and increasing

Speculators increased long positions for the first time in six weeks and by 10,302 contracts, which brought the net positions to +408.4K contracts.

  • Natural gas – Net position short and decreasing

Shorts declined last week and by 4,487 contracts last week that brought the net position to -18.4K contracts.
