CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (16th September) and cover positions up to Tuesday (13th September). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions, however, it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.

- Gold – Net position long and decreasing
Gold failed to gain from equities and bonds selloffs and traders decreased their net long positions in gold by large amount. The net long position decreased by 22,447 contracts to +285.4K contracts.
- Copper – Net position short and decreasing
Net short positions decreased after a rise for third consecutive week. The net-shorts decreased by 4,932 contracts to -25.3K contracts.
- Silver – Net position long and decreasing
The net long position in silver decreased after a rise for second consecutive week. The net longs decreased by 4,932 contracts to +88K contracts.
- WTI Crude – Net position long and increasing
Crude oil saw an increase in net long position. The net long positions increased by 27,507 contracts to +313.3K contracts.
- Natural gas – Net position short and increasing
Natural gas net-shorts increased marginally last week. Net-short positions rose by 610 contracts to -77.1K contracts.
