Smartphone companies have been promising an all-screen mobile device for years now and it seems Lenovo will be the first to make good on this promise. Apparently, the tech giant is developing a device that will feature absolutely no notch, which would make it a true all-screen device. If so, it would be the first of its kind that could make it a hit among those who hate notches like what the iPhone X features.
This news comes courtesy of Chang Cheng, the VP at Lenovo who shared a sketch of a concept phone that might be making an appearance in June, CNET reports. This is a direct opposition of the trend that the smartphone industry appears to have taken, in which it is employing the same notch that the iPhone X infamously started.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed as of now and the only evidence that the phone even exists is the sketch that Cheng shared. Creating an all-screen phone that comes with absolutely no notches or bezels is not exactly the easiest thing in the world to do.
Attempting to make such a phone comes with a lot of challenges, which involve finding somewhere else to place the camera and the various other sensors that perform essential functions with the phone. On that note, it would seem that Lenovo might have found a way to get around these issues thanks to its supposed “four technological breakthroughs” and “18 patented technologies,” TechCrunch reports.
No specifics about the device have been revealed, as of yet, and there are still a lot of questions surrounding it that Lenovo will eventually need to answer. If this project does end up being real and it provides the kind of technological innovation that the concept of an all-screen phone promises, it might set off a new trend that will put an end to the iPhone X notch bandwagon.
