Loblaw says its 102,300-square-foot Real Canadian Superstore at Buffalo Run will open Nov. 26, bringing a new source of everyday essentials to Tsuut’ina Nation members, Taza residents and nearby communities.

The company announced the date Oct. 29 and scheduled an opening ceremony for 7 a.m. Mountain Standard Time (9 a.m. EST/14:00 UTC). Buffalo Run is on Tsuut’ina Nation land near southwest Calgary.

The store’s design involved the Tsuut’ina-Taza Cultural Advisory Working Group. Loblaw credits the group’s participation with making this the first Alberta location in its Superstore chain shaped in partnership with an Indigenous community.

Curator Stephanie One Spot coordinated contributions from Aaron Angus Rattlesnake, Maria One Spot, Irene Crowchild and Brianna Rowan-Meguinis. Their works are set to debut at the opening, Loblaw said.

The planned store will offer fresh produce and full-service departments for meat, seafood and baked goods. Its other merchandise will include household supplies, entertainment, beauty products and toys, according to the company.

Loblaw says the opening is expected to support job opportunities and local economic activity while improving access to everyday essentials for Nation members, Taza residents and surrounding communities. The announcement does not give a job estimate.

Taza spans 1,200 acres on Tsuut’ina Nation land and includes three villages, one of them Buffalo Run. Taza Development Corp. announced its partnership with Loblaw in 2025, when the store was projected to open in 2026. Loblaw has described Taza as a 50-50 partnership between Tsuut’ina Nation and Canderel.

Loblaw says it will announce the rest of the celebration schedule closer to the opening.
