MacBook users have long had one common issue they encounter, and that is problems with the keyboard that many attributes to Apple’s so-called butterfly design. The Cupertino, California-based tech giant seems to finally hear those complaints as a new keyboard design will reportedly launch with a new MacBook Pro in 2019.
The new keyboard mechanism, which is being likened to a pair of scissors, is expected to be applied to new MacBook models launching beyond 2019. This is also not the only interesting rumored detail about the MacBook Pro 2019.
MacBook Pro 2019 specs, design, features: What to expect
The information about the scissor keyboard comes from the reliable industry source and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors). In his recent note to investors, Kuo reports that Apple will launch the scissor keyboard first on the new 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019.
Meanwhile, Apple will reportedly implement the keyboard change on other MacBook models in 2020. In Kuo’s note, the scissor keyboard is slated to be featured on refreshed 13.3-inch, 15.6-inch, and 16-inch MacBook Pro as well as on a new 13.3-inch MacBook Air.
MacBook fanatics might see the biggest change in MacBook Pro 2019 as an improvement. Apple has repeatedly received backlash over the prone-to-malfunction butterfly keyboard. Despite launching a keyboard repair program, where customers are entitled to free services within four years since the date of purchase, the negative feedback and experience continued.
Aside from the new keyboard mechanism, the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 is also expected to sport new design and features. For one, its screen is rumored to be much thinner than its predecessors and support a 3027 x 1920 display resolution.
Apple has already announced refreshed MacBook Pro models earlier this year. So, likely, the new keyboard design will only be available on the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019.
MacBook Pro 2019 release date, price
Kuo’s earlier reports indicated that the 16-inch laptop was slated for a 2020 or 2021 launch. However, his latest notes updated that information and cite that another MacBook Pro 2019 model would be unveiled before the year ends.
The all-new keyboard improved display features, and bigger screen all indicate that the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 will cost higher than the 15-inch MacBook Pro announced earlier this year. The latter’s base price starts at $2,399.
