“Madam Secretary” season 5 will premiere with a big bang as it was confirmed that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to star as a guest. And it is not just her; Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell, who are also former U.S. secretaries of state, are onboard as well.
This is a rare event on TV, so with these three powerful personalities’ appearance in the first episode, it is easy to tell that the pilot telecast will be a huge one. As stated in a press release, the three political figures are not going to play fictional characters but rather they will act as themselves. The episode is titled "E Pluribus Unum" and it will show “Madam Secretary” season 5’s own secretary of state, Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni), asking for advice on how to deal or handle a delicate situation involving Russia.
According to CBS, the three politicians already filmed their scenes on July 11. Having such great people on “Madam Secretary” season 5, executive producer Barbara Hall stated, "It was a privilege to experience their perspectives and discourse both in and behind the scenes."
Co-executive producer Lori McCreary further described the experience as “humbling and awe-inspiring.” She also shared that it was a miracle that they were able to get the three of them together and film despite their busy schedules.
The synopsis for “Madam Secretary” season 5 episode 1 reads: “In the aftermath of a deadly attack on the White House, Elizabeth tries to keep a major nuclear disarmament deal from falling apart while a manhunt for the attackers brings D.C. to a halt. For advice, Elizabeth turns to former secretaries of state.”
Fans can’t wait for the fifth season to air and it appears that even Madeleine Albright is excited as well. On Twitter, she wrote, “It was great to be back on the set of @MadamSecretary with @tealeoni. It is always nice to consult with my successors.”
Meanwhile, “Madam Secretary” season 5 is debuting on Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
