Mahindra Automotive announces its next-gen electric SUVs, powered by Volkswagen's advanced APP550 motor. The collaboration promises groundbreaking performance, with the first model, the BE.05, set to launch in 2025. This alliance reaffirms Mahindra's commitment to sustainable transportation.
Mahindra Automotive has designed its INGLO platform to accommodate Volkswagen's APP550 electric motor. This platform will be utilized across all future electric SUVs from Mahindra, including the highly anticipated Mahindra Thar.e and BE (Born Electric) range.
The first model to feature this motor will be Volkswagen's ID.7 electric mid-size liftback sedan. Volkswagen claims that the APP550 electric motor will deliver an impressive maximum power output of 286 bhp and a torque of 550 Nm. This represents a significant increase compared to Volkswagen's previous EV motor, which produced 201 bhp of power and 310 Nm of torque.
Volkswagen has made several improvements to the APP550 electric drive unit to enhance torque output and overall performance. This includes an upgraded stator with increased windings, a larger wire cross-section, and reinforced rotors equipped with stronger magnets capable of handling heavier loads.
Efficient thermal management is essential for maximizing the efficiency of an electric drive unit. The APP550 motor incorporates a self-regulating temperature control system that relies on the gear wheels of the gearbox and specially designed oil supply components. The vehicle's coolant circuit cools the heated oil, ensuring optimal operating temperature.
The launch of Mahindra's electric SUV lineup is part of their commitment to sustainable transportation. By partnering with Volkswagen and leveraging their advanced electric motor technology, Mahindra aims to provide eco-friendly SUV options without compromising performance.
The first model expected to debut is the Mahindra BE.05, a mid-size EV SUV set to be released in 2025. With Mahindra's focus on incorporating cutting-edge technology and Volkswagen's expertise in electric motor development, these electric SUVs promise to deliver a groundbreaking driving experience.
