The third US government auction of the seized Silk Road bitcoins held last week has raised the question as to who won the two biggest blocks of 27,000 and 20,000 coins. ibBit announced this week that it is third winner and claimed 3,000 bitcoins, the smallest amount on the auction block.
In the previous two auctions, the winners announced their names within days of placing their successful bids. Venture capitalist Tim Draper was the first auction winner, who declared all the 30,000 bitcoins for sale. Bitcoin Investment Trust claimed the second auction with Draper again winning a few coins.
Market watchers now believe that they may have identified a second winner, who declared the largest tranche of coins, that is, 27,000 BTC, on sale.
