Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on "Friends" from 1994 to 2004, died Saturday. He was 54.
Matthew Perry's Real Cause of Death Revealed
According to the Los Angeles Times, officers arrived at Matthew's home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles at 4 p.m., citing unnamed sources. PDT, he was discovered unresponsive in a hot tub.
TMZ reported, citing "law enforcement sources," Matthew was discovered in a jacuzzi; no drugs were discovered at the site. At 4:07 p.m., a 911 call was received and was classified as a water rescue, according to a law enforcement source.
According to the news outlet, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Brian Humphrey stated that no one was sent to a hospital. Law enforcement sources did not specify a cause of death because the investigation was ongoing. There was no evidence of foul play.
Who Is Matthew Perry?
For starters, Matthew Perry was best recognized as a core cast member of "Friends," NBC's Generation X sitcom from the 1990s. Perry portrayed Chandler Bing on "Friends," a statistical analyst who employed sarcasm and one-liners.
From 1994 to 2004, the sitcom was a television smash, dominating prime time with "Seinfeld." It aired for ten seasons, from 1994 to 2004. Matthew also had roles in "Boys Will Be Boys," "Growing Pains," "Beverly Hills, 90210," "The West Wing," and "Scrubs."
The American actor, raised in Ottawa, Canada, had a great career as a top-ranked tennis player competing in Canadian juniors. When he moved to Los Angeles, he virtually left the sport to pursue acting at age 15. Matthew joined the cast of "Friends" when he was 24.
Perry went on a press tour for the release of his memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir," around a year ago, which added to revelations about his battle with addiction, including a near-death experience in 2019 after his colon burst as a result of his opiate usage.
