Matthew Perry has a drug addiction history. When the popular “Friends” sitcom where he was part of ended, he took a wrong turn and became addicted to illegal drugs.
Matthew Perry’s case was so bad at that time and in fact, his ex-girlfriend claimed that the actor would ask her to buy him cocaine, heroin and others. Kayti Edwards alleged that as she was pregnant, the actor told her that she doesn’t have to worry about being pulled over since she was a pregnant girl.
Kayti and Matthew’s relationship
As per The Sun, Kayti Edwards and Matthew Perry dated for a short time in the 2000s. The former agreed to collect drugs for her then-boyfriend because she wants to protect him.
She said she would meet up with dealers so the “Friends” actor will not wander around the streets and get caught by the paparazzi or worse, the authorities. Kayti narrated that the year 2011 was the peak of Matthew’s drug addiction and it was so bad.
Kayti added that Matthew Perry also has the habit of making her feel guilty so she runs errands for him even it involves something illegal. “He’d give me this guilt trip like, ‘If you don’t get me this I’m just gonna go there myself and walk downtown.’”
She went on to say that she realized that her relationship with Matthew became toxic and it was to the point that she couldn’t refuse his requests. She admitted though that she was also being paid by the actor.
“I was making all this money and I just had to drive, pick it up, bring it to him, boom, sometimes three times a day,” she admitted. “Sometimes I made like $3,000-$4,000 a day. He would always say to me, ‘Money is no object.’”
Matthew’s engagement
Meanwhile, Kayti and Matthew Perry are still friends and he is now engaged to Molly Hurwitz. The actor has sobered up and he is back to work in Hollywood. As for his engagement, it did not surprise his friends anymore because he and Molly have been together for a long time now.
Recently, Matthew Perry launched a fundraising event to help raise money for the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 relief efforts. He and Molly are releasing “Friends”-inspired apparel line and the profits are going to be donated.
