Mazda is partnering with performance wear brand Mizuno to come up with its Bareclutch sneaker, which is designed to enhance the feeling of driving.
The low-top shoe has a thin sole for a more direct feel on the pedal, and efficient cushioning keeps it comfortable enough to wear outside of the car.
The Bareclutch sneaker is an extension of Mazda's Jinba-Ittai philosophy, which has been used in the design of its vehicles for many years.
Jinba-Ittai embodies the idea that the sense of oneness shared by a rider and his beloved horse is the ultimate bond that Mazda has worked hard to recreate between its cars and drivers.
The Bareclutch sneaker strengthens this bond by providing a more direct pedal feel and more accurate pedal feedback.
Mazda claims that the shoe was designed to help drivers "communicate" with their vehicles. A thin Mizuno COB sole improves the feel of your feet on the pedals and, unlike most driving shoes, does not sacrifice cushioning.
While the Bareclutch isn't designed for long walks, its padded insole allows wearers to switch between driving and walking with ease and, more importantly, comfort.
