ORLANDO, Fla., April 28, 2016 -- Last week, Neurosurgeon Andrew Cannestra, MD, PhD, performed Baptist Medical Center's 700th case with the Mazor Robotics Renaissance® Guidance System. The team at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville has two Renaissance systems and uses the technology to assist in both spine and brain procedures.
Dr. Cannestra uses the system for spine procedures, along with fellow neurosurgeons at Lyerly Neurosurgery/Baptist Health, Paulo Monteiro, MD; Michael Petr, MD, PhD; Javier Garcia-Bengochea, MD, and Bradley Wallace, MD, PhD. Dr. Wallace also uses the Renaissance system's brain module to assist in the planning and execution of electrode placement trajectories for cranial procedures. See how it works.
"The robotic system allows precise placement of hardware, enabling our patients to have better and more consistent outcomes," said Dr. Cannestra, director of the robotic spine surgery program at Baptist. "Seven hundred cases is a landmark in spinal robotic care and should be recognized as providing the best possible surgical option for spinal fusion." Watch this story of how he helped patient Bonnie Wilson lead a normal life again with Renaissance technology.
Mazor Robotics Inc. CEO Christopher Prentice, added, "We are honored as a company to have this prestigious team of surgeons using Renaissance on a near daily basis, and it is of great benefit being close to our Central Florida headquarters. Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville continues to be at the forefront of neurosurgical and spine care and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones together."
