McDonald’s reported higher third-quarter profit and global comparable-sales growth, while comparable guest counts in the United States fell, leaving U.S. comparable sales slightly lower.

In results released Nov. 4, the company reported net income of $2.486 billion for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, up 9% from a year earlier. Revenue increased 1% to $7.157 billion. Diluted earnings per share rose 10% to $3.51, from $3.18.

Worldwide comparable sales advanced 1.5%. The measure covers restaurants open for at least 13 months, including franchised locations, and tracks sales at established restaurants. In the United States, comparable sales declined 0.2% as comparable guest counts fell. McDonald’s said higher customer checks largely made up for the drop in comparable guests, though the U.S. sales measure remained negative.

Results varied across the company’s international markets. Comparable sales grew 1.4% in international operated markets and 4.2% in international developmental licensed markets. Germany and Australia led the operated group, with France partly offsetting gains. Japan led the licensed markets, while China recorded a decline.

Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski said U.S. performance improved as the quarter progressed following the company’s value initiatives. After removing the respective 2026 and 2025 charges, McDonald’s said the quarter’s results mainly reflected higher other operating income and stronger franchised margins tied to sales.
