McDonald’s Korea pledged to make its operation more environmentally-friendly as part of its new action plan covering four sectors that also include keeping quality ingredients and supply, society, and employment.
It will replace all burger wrapping papers with renewable and recyclable ones by 2025, introduce drinking cups with lids that do not need straws, and change the ink used on the wraps to eco-friendly ones.
The burger chain will also use electric bikes for delivery by 2021.
The company will also open more environmentally-friendly stores similar to the Goyang-Samsong Drive-thru store, in Gyeonggi Province, which is installed with LED lights, solar heating collectors, and digital menu boards.
Antoni Martinez, managing director of McDonald’s Korea, emphasized that they are not just a company who is serving burgers, but also one that is responsible for the best interests of every customer in local communities.
To provide more sustainable and high-quality ingredients, McDonald‘s Korea will replace its oil with sunflower, which is lower in fatty acid and trans fat.
The company will also continue to create regular jobs as a way to reinforce its social contribution practice.
