Queen Elizabeth II has been known for her keen sense of humor. Apparently, Meghan Markle knew beforehand that Prince Harry’s grandmother appreciates a good joke so she gave the monarch a hilarious gift for Christmas back in 2017.
Meghan Markle actually gave Queen Elizabeth II a singing toy hamster that year, Express reported. The British monarch thought it very hilarious that she burst out laughing.
“Meghan bought a little hamster that sings with a little rope for Her Majesty,” a source close to the royal family revealed. “It was so funny, especially when the corgis tried to take hold of the toy.”
Her Majesty quickly noticed that her corgis seem to love the toy. “It can keep my dogs company,” was her perfect remark.
Unfortunately, the singing hamster did not make it past the Holidays. As soon as the Queen’s corgis got hold of the toy, they promptly ripped it to pieces.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided not to spend Christmas with Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the family this year. Instead, they opted to travel across the Atlantic to spend the Holidays with Meghan’s mom in Canada.
Apparently, the royal couple loved spending their six-week break from royal duty in Canada so much that they might be back later this year. Royal expert Omid Scobie said that Harry and Meghan will likely be back to the country in the future for work and possibly for an official tour, according to Daily Mail.
For the Sussexes, one of the biggest perks of being in Canada is that they can escape the spotlight and live low key for a while. “[Canada] is a safe place for the couple - they were able to go unnoticed there for a while,” Scobie said.
The royal commentator also said that going to Canada is even more important for the Duchess of Sussex because she has friends and family there. “It's an important place for Meghan and she has family and friends there,” Scobie added. “It's also part of the Commonwealth. We'll see them take on more work there, perhaps even a tour, but I don't think they're house-hunting yet.”
