First Lady Melania Trump previously made headlines as she is reportedly taking on bigger roles to help in the reelection of his husband, Donald Trump, as the President of the United States. However, it is now confirmed that one of the two major fundraisers she was set to host has been canceled.
Melania Trump cancels hosting of a fundraiser event for Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign
Mrs. Trump was set to host two huge fundraising events this month, starting in Beverly Hills, California, originally scheduled on Wednesday, March 18. Proceeds from the event would have benefited the Trump Victory, a joint committee for her husband’s campaign and the Republican National Committee.
The decision to nix the March 18 event was confirmed on Monday by White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham. Per Grisham, the first lady ultimately called for the cancellation due to a “scheduling conflict.”
Despite the reason provided, reports have also pointed out that the decision was made amid increasing concerns over the COVID-19, aka novel coronavirus. Throughout the state, various measures have been imposed to address the public health issue. A state of emergency was declared in California last week after its first recorded death linked to the virus, while universities have suspended in-room classes.
The latest reports indicate that there have been 22 deaths linked to the virus in the United States, two of which were recorded in California. Meanwhile, the total of confirmed cases has soared to 717 on Monday.

Mrs. Trump is scheduled to host the second fundraiser this month at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, on March 25. The White House has yet to cancel this event. Florida has also been placed under a state of emergency on Monday after the state government confirmed two deaths related to COVID-19.
Melania Trump takes on bigger roles for Donald Trump’s re-election
The canceled event in California would have been the first major fundraiser that Mrs. Trump would host by herself. It can be recalled that various speculations circulated during Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, even after he won, casting doubts on the first lady’s willingness to partake in his political journey. The rumors did not go away soon, especially when it took Mrs. Trump several months to move from their New York residence and to the White House.
