First Lady Melania Trump’s citizenship has and still is questioned by many people, given her husband Donald Trump’s dislike for immigrants. Recently, her citizenship has been called into question again when loopholes were reportedly found in her immigration and citizenship story.
Politicalflare reports that there are inconsistencies regarding Melania’s story regarding how she was able to successfully become an American citizen. The First Lady shared that she had a visa and that she went back and forth from America to Slovenia to had her visa stamped. “I came back, I applied for the green card, I applied for citizenship later on after many years of green card. So I went by system, I went by the law. And you should do that, you should not just say let me stay here and whatever happens, happens.”
However, according to Politico, Melania’s set of racy photos for the February 1997 issue of the New York Post seems to suggest that she may have been working in the US illegally. Melania may have been in the United States one year prior to the time she said, and that she might have attained the B-1 visa or a business visa instead of the H-1B visa she claimed. This is ironic considering that her husband has been vocal about his opinions regarding immigrants.
This would then make her “Einstein visa” questionable as well. This kind of visa is usually given to those who have exhibited extraordinary ability or at least made great contributions to society such as Pulitzer or Nobel prize winners, Olympians, Oscar winners, and renowned researchers and multinational executives. Melania applied for the visa in 2000 and got approved in 2001, back when she was still known as Melania Knauss.
In the meantime, Donald Trump is set to make this year’s State of the Union address in the midst of the ongoing impeachment trial that is set to close this week. Many have noticed that throughout the past years that he has made this address, he has never once acknowledged Melania’s work, compared to his predecessors. Melania established the Be Best campaign in 2018, focusing on anti-bullying. So it raises the question of whether or not he will do so this year. It is likely he would not. “I think his speechwriters know that Donald Trump talking about anti-bullying initiative is ironic at best, and you don’t want people laughing in the middle of a State of the Union address,” said a former Obama speechwriter.
