Mercedes-Benz's high-performance division, AMG, has officially unveiled its new Mercedes-AMG GT electric SUV, introducing a powerful addition to its growing electric vehicle lineup. The launch highlights the German luxury automaker's push into the premium EV market as competition intensifies among manufacturers of high-performance electric SUVs.
Revealed on Saturday, the fully electric Mercedes-AMG GT SUV will be available in three variants: the GT 53, GT 55, and GT 63. Prices start at 113,050 euros (approximately $127,060), positioning the vehicle in the luxury electric SUV segment.
The flagship Mercedes-AMG GT 63 delivers an impressive peak output of up to 1,153 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful models in AMG's expanding electric portfolio. Meanwhile, the mid-range GT 55 produces up to 805 horsepower, while the entry-level GT 53 offers up to 536 horsepower.
These performance figures demonstrate Mercedes-AMG's commitment to combining electric mobility with the acceleration, power, and driving dynamics traditionally associated with its gasoline-powered performance vehicles.
The new electric SUV is built on the dedicated AMG.EA electric vehicle platform, an architecture developed specifically for high-performance electric models. The same platform underpins the recently introduced Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, allowing the automaker to expand its electric performance lineup using shared technology.
Unlike Mercedes-Benz's broader electric vehicle platforms, AMG.EA focuses on delivering enhanced power, responsive handling, and sporty driving characteristics. This approach is designed to attract performance-oriented customers seeking an electric alternative without sacrificing driving excitement.
The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is expected to compete directly with premium electric performance SUVs from manufacturers such as Porsche, which continues to strengthen its presence in the luxury EV market.
The unveiling also comes amid improving electric vehicle sales for Mercedes-Benz. The automaker reported record battery-electric vehicle sales of 68,400 units in the third quarter, representing a 61% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
The strong sales performance reflects growing demand for Mercedes-Benz electric models as the company broadens its battery-powered offerings across multiple vehicle categories.
With its combination of powerful electric motors, dedicated performance architecture, and premium positioning, the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV represents another significant step in the brand's electrification strategy and its efforts to compete in the evolving global luxury electric vehicle market.
