Metro Exodus Features New Environments, Gorgeous Graphics And A Crossbow

The Metro series of first-person shooter games is highly praised for its high-quality gameplay and narrative aspects. During Microsoft’s presentation, the company unveiled a trailer for the newest game in the franchise called Metro Exodus. It features new landscapes where players can breathe the open air, absolutely stunning visuals, and a crossbow.

The trailer’s opening provides fans of the series with the familiar sights of ruined underground tunnels full of dead bodies. 4A Games, the development studio behind the games retains the eerie, claustrophobic feels of the first two games and ups the ante with a clear boost in graphical capabilities. Based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s books, the games effectively brought the source material to life, Business Insider reports.

While some parts of the trailer were standard fare for a Metro game, with tense combat, lots of mutant enemies, and the signature gas mask point of view, there were a few key differences. One is the addition of a crossbow that features normal and exploding bolts. The other is the surface environments which don’t require players to wear protective gear to breathe.

In the first two games, the only places where characters can survive without gas masks are the tunnels or sealed buildings. For Exodus, it seems players will finally get to appreciate the ruined landscapes of Russia unimpeded.

So far, information about the game itself is still limited and the launch window is placed sometime around 2018 The Verge reports. As of writing, Exodus has been confirmed for both the Xbox One and the PC. There has been no word if it will be released for the PlayStation 4 as well.

As for the characters, story, and setting of the game, the details are just as scarce. On the other hand, 4A has proven to be a capable studio in producing well-crafted games with excellent pacing and story development.
